1. Measure your upper facial height, which is the distance from nasion to the lowest point on the gums between the two upper medial incisors(the prosthion)
2. Multiply your upper facial height by 100
3. Divide the product by your bizygomatic diameter
Upper Facial Index(U.F.I.)
U.F.I. - 44.9 = hypereuryene (very long-/narrow-upper-faced)
U.F.I. 45.0 - 49.9 = euryene (short-/broad-upper-faced)
U.F.I. 50.0 - 54.9 = mesene (of moderate upper facial form)
U.F.I. 55.0 - 55.9 = leptene (long-/narrow-upper-faced)
U.F.I. 60.0 - = hyperleptene (very long-/narrow-upper-faced)
It's worth noting that this method of measuring the midsection of the face precedes the Facial Width-To-Height Ratio (fWHR) by many decades. It is very likely that the fWHR is a modern version of the UFI, which was used in the early half of the 20th century by anthropologists such as Carleton Coon.
