The bottom line is when dopamine is high and serotonin is low, we will always feel that urge to try to get the carrot.
We think to ourselves: “If I lose 50 lbs, I’ll be happy” or ” If I have a million dollars, I’ll be happy” or “If such and such wasn’t such an ass, I would be happy”
After we lose the 50 lbs, we say “If I get rid of these stretch marks, then I’ll be truly happy“. After we have the money, we then want more to stay happy. Once someone is done being an “ass”, we simply place a new expectation on them that they have to fulfill to keep us happy.
The target (of happiness) is always moving. As a result, we cannot hit it.
rrot) and a total lack of flexibility (it’s your way or the highway).
Rotter- Low Dopamine, no motivation , 'rotting' lifestyle , can either be content with life or depressed (low in both)
Because dopamine levels are low, the ability to focus and organize is decreased. We no longer have that “drive” so lack of energy is a common symptom here.

You will never be happy until you fix these imbalances, chasing the carrot or coping will not fix the underlying issues you all have. Find the cause of the imbalance and fix that.
