Been thinking about starting soon. It just seems like it's very possibly bro science.

honestly i don't think it's bro science. i've heard very good things about meditation. might start doing it as well

Legit. I just feel like for as many successful people that I hear who do meditate. There's even more who don't.

legit nice to see fellow high IQ posters also interested in meditation.  I agree it sounds SUPER brosciencey, but then again it makes sense intuitively and I have heard it's legit, just really fucking hard to force ourself to learn how to do it.  Meditation + nofap challenge whos in.

I've been on no fap for the past 4 days my man.

lmao at meditation. You guys are finding dumber things to do every day instead of things that will actually help. What's next acupuncture?

I would recommend Zen style meditation

work up to 10-15 mins a day

the main lessons I learned are:

I can be satisfied and happy just by being and existing

I am not my ego

I don't have to listen to what my brain tells me

I am simply "the capacity to experience" not what I am experiencing

Sounds very much like LSD ego death.

Sort of.  It's like a very clear minded LSD ego death.  I used to do a lot of it.

It definitely will help you guys reduce your anxiety and increase your frustration tolerance when things aren't going your way.   It just completely shuts down your worrying brain and is accompanied with this kind of body high.  The better you get at it, the more easily you can just flip into meditation mode throughout your day.

I'm going to do it morning/afternoon/night, five minutes each time and increase by five minutes each week.

When I used to do it, I'd focus on my breathing and my breathing alone.  Eventually, if you focused long enough, the body high would kick in and you'd just feel so damn calm and at ease.

When I've tried before, I just want to look at the stopwatch. Is that the whole point of it? To still the mind?

Yupp, the whole point is to keep your mind occupied focusing on one simple thing, which paradoxically causes it to become still.  Don't even bother with a stop watch, thinking about time will not help at all.

Meditation + NoFap crew = unbelievable cope off the charts

This is legit.  You get a body high off of it and your anxiety plummets.  When you get good enough at it, you can just turn it on at will, which is helpful for the aspie and anxiety cels here.

I do transcendental. It's only about 15 minutes a day. Its a part of my daily routine.

And once in a while I'll do one of those guided sleep meditations if I'm having trouble falling asleep.

I'm in for trying out some meditation because there seems to be some legit health and mental benefits. Particularly interesting is the potential effects on cortisol levels:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23724462

No fap, as I've always maintained on this forum, is a complete waste of time. Lacks any real scientific evidence and did nothing for me when I tried it strictly for a few weeks without porn.

Does anyone have any resources or links to how to meditate?
