Dynamic chewing exercise or static bite exercise?

Right now I'm chomping down pretty hard on a ruler (anything that's kind of hard will work) with my incisors (front teeth), and just keeping it there for a bit (20 seconds each time, maybe more), keeping the muscles engaged as if doing a plank type of exercise. I find that doing this or chewing with my incisors work only the lower part of the masseter, and I can't even feel the temporal muscles working either.


So anyway what do you people think: Chewing (pumping the muscles) or extended static biting?
