Did people speak slightly differently in the 90s?

I was listening to old videos of US rappers being interviewed in the early 90s.

What struck me is that both the rap artists and interviewers speak in a slightly different fashion to how they would today. I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining it.

If you're not sure what I mean, compare Grammy and VMA Award speeches and chat from like 1993-96 to now.

Those of you who lived through the 90s, how has the language and grammar people use in interviews, everyday chat etc. changed and have you notice the difference?

Don't you think this clip with Mariah Carey from 1996 sounds different? The announcer, interviewer and Mariah all sound... different.

VMA 1994. Again, more of this 90's way of speaking which you don't hear these days:

Less aggressive and self aware. The internet fucked everything up.
